How to choose the right lubricant for industrial machines

Selecting the right lubricant is one of the simplest ways to reduce wear, control temperature, and extend machine life in industrial plants.

Start with the application

The right product for a gearbox is not the right product for a hydraulic system, compressor, or bearing. Begin with the equipment type and duty conditions.

Check temperature, load, and operating pattern

Continuous duty, high load, shock loading, seasonal temperature swings, and stop-start cycles all affect which viscosity and lubricant chemistry make sense.

Look at contamination risk

Dust, moisture, process debris, and air entrainment can quickly damage lubricant performance. In some plants, contamination control matters as much as lubricant choice itself.

Consider drain interval and support needs

Longer service life, better oxidation stability, and sample testing support can make higher-performing products more valuable over time than a simple upfront price comparison.
